Every piece on it has sold at least ten units in the last twelve months. That is the only rule. It is not the newest range and it is not the deepest discount, it is the things that have already proven people want them.
It is a deliberately boring filter and it is the most useful one for a shopper, because it means the shelf is not a clearance rack. Nothing has been put there to get rid of it.
Is Black Friday a good time to buy Christmas gifts?

Worth knowing so the comparison is fair. A large retailer discounts 60% in November because the item was made months earlier in a run of fifty thousand, the unit cost is tiny, and the alternative is storing it. The discount is paying for warehouse space they no longer want to rent.
